It is important to understand that everyone is exposed to mould throughout their lives. Mould grows in nature outdoors as well as in our homes and buildings.
Mould becomes dangerous when it starts to infest our dwellings and place of employment. Ignoring mould infestations can cause health problems. Exposure to mould can cause reactions depending on health, age, and the amount of time an exposed person spends in the home. The elderly, pregnant women, infants and young children, people with allergies, chronic respiratory illness and those with weakened immune systems are most likely to experience health effects from mould.
A visual examination is the most dependable means of identifying mould. However, mould may grow in your wall cavities or attic spaces where it is not easily found. Musty odours or changes in health could be the first signs you may have mould problems.
